Our story
We believe every child can become a confident reader.
My Turn to Read began with a simple frustration: too many beginner books ask kids to memorize words they can't possibly sound out. We wanted a gentler, more honest path — one that respects how children's brains actually learn to read.

Evidence-based, individualized instruction.
As a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT), I specialize in supporting individuals with dyslexia and related language-based learning differences. My instruction is evidence-based, systematic, and individualized — drawing on the science of how the brain learns to read, process language, and communicate.
I work across the full landscape of language: phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and orthography.

Who's behind My Turn to Read?

Hi, I'm Kristen!
I've spent the last 20 years helping struggling readers as a classroom teacher and a reading specialist. With 40% of 4th graders in the USA reading below basic level, I knew I had to do more.
I earned my Master's in Education from Texas State University and am now working towards becoming a Certified Academic Language Therapist to support students with dyslexia.
My journey took an exciting turn when I met Jan, a researcher with a Ph.D. in Education. Jan's passion for the science of reading was ignited when her own child struggled with reading.

Hi, I'm Jan!
I have a Ph.D. in Education. My interest in the science of reading began when my own child struggled with reading in first grade.
To help her, I spent over a year researching neuroscience and effective reading methods, and I used all that knowledge to support her progress.
Later, Kristen and I developed a program based on this research, which I've personally tested with my children, including my 4-year-old daughter, Alma. I've also helped many other parents along the way — and now I want to share what I have learned to help your child overcome reading challenges.
What we stand for
Evidence, not trends
We build on what reading research has shown to work for nearly every child.
Kindness to families
No shame, no overwhelm. Just small wins, every day.
Books kids love
Reading practice only works if it's something children actually want to do.
